RJN Group, Inc. is pleased to announce that the Bloomington City Council has approved an agreement with RJN to conduct a comprehensive water main condition assessment in Census Tract 59 utilizing groundbreaking AVA technology.
This innovative method sends microscopic vibroacoustic signals through the water column to detect pipe wall thickness, locate leaks, and identify structural distress with an unmatched level of precision up to five feet resolution; meaning each segment of the pipe’s condition can be individually viewed, whereas other technologies provide an average condition for the entire length of the pipeline. The process provides detailed insights into underground infrastructure without costly excavation or service disruption.
This project aligns with Bloomington’s strategic plan to upgrade city infrastructure and ensure quality water service for decades to come. The data collected will provide city staff with actionable recommendations to guide future investments in water infrastructure.
By expanding the scope, Bloomington will gain a comprehensive understanding of the condition of its water mains, supporting long-term planning for roadway improvements and coordination with lead service line replacement programs.
Francisco Sobral, PE, Client Manager at RJN Group, said that “Bloomington is making a smart investment in its future.
AVA is shifting the paradigm for how Bloomington will manage its water distribution system. Instead of the traditional annual pipeline replacement program, which is the status quo for the majority of water operators, we will show them in granular detail which pipe needs replacing and which pipe still has years of service left.”This novel approach will simultaneously save money and while creating a long-term program to ensuring capital dollars are allocated to the most impactful and necessary replacement or repair activities.
