CANstruction: March 2007 – St. Louis

This year, the St. Louis Canstruction Team, led by employee owner Chad Janson, received the award for “Best Use of Labels” – one of three awards handed out at the March 2007 event.  RJN’s build is now eligible for the national construction competition, which takes place in the fall.

It took the team 10 hours to construct their well-thought design, using more than 4,500 cans.  All food used in the “build” was donated to one of two food banks in the city of St. Louis.  A total of 35,000 to 40,000 cans were donated as a result of this event.  It was RJN’s second year to participate in the St. Louis event.

CANstruction is a competition in which employees of companies in the design and building fields compete in constructing 10-by-10-foot structures using cans of food.  Twelve teams competed in the regional event at St. Louis Mills in Hazelwood, Missouri. The structures they built included a butterfly, a Cardinals cap, a water tower, a traffic light, Winnie the Pooh and Honey Pot, and of course, RJN’s award-winning shamrock, rainbow and pot of gold.

Special thanks to the following RJN team members for donating their time and effort to this terrific event: Chad Janson, Kelley Davis, Lisa Douglas, April Frank, Mike Galluzzo, Dan Hanner, Kiel Harms, Paula Hegger, Rob Kuenzel, Ed Laux, Bonnie Little, Angela Martin, Billie Simpson, Brian Stumpf, Kevin White, Josh Zipprich, Bob Januska, Jan Miller, and Jeff Frauenfelder.

Thanks also to the RJN Foundation for a $500 donation to the St. Louis Area Food Bank.
