CANstruction: September 2007 – Dallas

Team Captain Kevin Chumbley and the staff in Dallas, Texas participated in their first-ever CANstruction competition. The team won the “People’s Choice” award – not bad for their first try! The build was held on August 25, 2007 at the NorthPark Mall in Dallas, Texas. RJN’s theme was “PAC Away Hunger,” and featured PacMan chasing edible items in the display. The exhibits were on display until September 9, 2007.   

It took a lot of individual effort to make this happen. Mustafa Smailovic designed the display. David Garcia, Naomi Hernandez, Brian Soniat, and Carlos Montoya delivered and picked up the food cans; and Kory Ballew, Mustafa Smailovic, Daniel Jackson, Brian Soniat, Randy Brodner, Amit Phillaura, Naomi Hernandez, and Jenelle Romero were involved in the actual build. Cheryl Teames and Aileen Saarty were a tremendous help as well.

The Dallas team’s design contributed just over 2,000 cans. In all, 131,684 food items were donated to the North Texas Food Bank as a result of the competition.
